In this article you will discover why users should claim their parks, and the basics of how to claim a mobile home park or RV park as your own, by using the My Parks module in MHParks.com.

Overview

One of the largest challenges to information is keeping the records accurate and up-to-date as time passes. The internet is full of park records that contain outdated mobile home park and RV park information because the records are rarely updated once the information has been submitted. Traditionally, if a mobile home or RV park buyer, or seller, does not specifically reach out to the entity posting the outdated information; it never gets updated. To correct this, MHParks.com has built a module called My Parks that works in tandem with our Park Sites module.

The My Parks module allows both free and paid members to claim their mobile home or RV parks in MHParks.com for 365 days before having to renew their claim again. This 365 days of protection ensures that only the user, that is the claimholder, can edit the Park Information by disabling the Edit Park Details button in the Park Sites module. At the end of the 365 days, if a claimholder fails to renew their claim because they have sold the park, the Edit Park Details button becomes available again for users to edit the Park Information records in the Park Sites module.

This ensures that the Park Information can be still be updated whenever the owner no longer works with that park in MHParks.com.  Additionally, while a Park Site is claimed in My Parks, other users can request permission from the park's claimholder to transfer the claim to them. This helps to ensure that park owners that may have sold their parks, don't forget to remove the claim once the transaction is complete.

As an added benefit, when you combine the power of My Parks with the Contacts module (by checking the option to "Keep My Profile Public" from within your My Profile settings), My Parks can also server as a great way to receive inquiries about your parks when your ready to sell but want to keep it "off market".

Prerequisites

  1. Both free and paid memberships have access to the My Parks module.

Definitions

  1. Park Site - A layer of data specific to a park's location which is managed exclusively by our system administrators, and contains information about a mobile home or RV park's city, county, state, and zip code.
  2. Park Information - A layer of data that is specific to the park and managed by our users. Examples of information contained in this layer are a park's street address, phone number, website, Flood Plain status, Utilities & Streets information, number of mobile home or RV lots, amenities, and park contacts.
  3. Claimed - A Park Site status that is used to indicate if a park has a claimholder in the My Parks module. Each claimed park will have a blue map pin if another member has claimed the park, or it will be purple if you have claimed the park.
  4. Claimholder - A user that has claimed Park Site within the My Parks module.

Instructions

To claim a Park Site in My Parks, please perform the following steps:
  1.  Login to your MHParks.com account.
  2. In your Dashboard, click My Parks from the left menu.
  3. On the My Parks main page, click the + Add New button in the top right of the page.
  4. From within the Google Map, select your desired Park Site by clicking on its map pin.
  5. When the Claim this Park dialog prompts you to confirm you wish to claim the park, click Yes.
Unclaimed Parks - If the Park Site you wish to claim IS NOT already claimed by another member (as indicated by either a green or black map pin) you will immediately become the new claimholder, and it will appear in your list of claimed parks on the My Parks main page. Additionally, any Park Site, that you have claimed in the My Parks module, will now appear as purple map pin while you are the claimholder.
Claimed Parks - If the Park Site IS already claimed by another user (as indicated by a blue map pin and the confirmation dialog box), MHParks.com will automatically send an email to the existing claimholder requesting permission for you to become the new claimholder. You will be notified of their response. When existing claimholder allows your to become the new claimholder the Park Site will automatically be added to your list of claimed parks on the My Parks main page. If the current claimholder fails to answer the email within 10 days of your request, your request will automatically be denied and you will need to repeat the process.
